Most of you don't know anything about the 730 Stellpflug 1996 seed, but those of you that *do*, know quite well the heavy OTC fruit it produces. Due to maggots killing off my Beachy (730 x sibb) plants I was to use as pollinators for my 1260 Weir, I decided to dust off a few of the rare 730 seed I have and give it a shot at germinating one...success rate is nowadays under 10%, IF you can find one to try and germinate. Well, lo and behold if I didn't get 6 to germinate due to Pete Glasier's superior seed storage techniques. So, I'd hate to see a few of probably the last few 730 plants that will probably ever be seen, be thrown in the compost pile thru the culling process. If any "experienced" grower out there would like to give one of the most likely last remaining 730 Stellpflug plants remaining a decent shot, albeit late, contact me and we'll work out something for getting one shipped to you alive and healthy (hopefully). This is about the only original, ultimate heavy OTC producing plants left..genetics that will be gone within the next few short years, if not already. Man, I'd hate to waste these beauties.

Man, if I wasn't building a new house this summer I would jump at this opertunity. the best I could provide this plant would be a Snake pattern along the edge of my patch this summer. I'm sure ALOT of people will want to give one a good home.

Whats the difference if the grower is "experienced" or not if yer gonna end up tossing them? This mentality kills me..

Just to clarify....I'd rather not spend the $25 or so it'll cost me to ship a plant in good condidtion, to someone who doesn't have much of a handle on what they're doing. If I'm gonna send it out of my own pocket, I oughta be able to have a little say-so on where it goes. How would you feel if *you* were going to offer to send it? Does that explain things a little better for ya'?

Exactly Southern. You should not have to pay $25 to send a plant to anyone (unless you are feeling generous). If they are going to get tossed, and someone will send you the shipping, there you go! An yes, it was a poor choice of words, but I think most people understood what you meant. No big deal.

Hey Kyle, what seed storing technique does Pete use? Freeze, fridge, or room temp? I had a 1996 seed that I couldn't get to germ this year. (For that matter, some newer ones, too, wouldn't light up for me.) So for you to get that many oldies fired up, he must be doing something right. Also, did you take any special precautions in germing the old ones? Frank

Frank....my understanding is that Pete keeps his seeds in jars, and in the refrigerator. I plan to e-mail him and get the full story though, I'm switching to his exact method. Last year it took me 11 of the 730 Stellpflug seed, to get 1 to germinate...and I know a few other growers who, combined, were unsuccessful with 9 or so. No special precautions except I used just a tiny touch of hydrogen peroxide in my soaking water instead of full strength like I did with my other seeds this year.
On a side note...Has anyone had any luck getting an 1120 Jutras to germinate? I'm 0-3 on this newer seed, my only failure this year.

BTW...Two growers have taken me up on the offer, I still have 1-2 plants available. These are really great older genetics...#2 ranked seed all-time per AGGC by Top 5 averaged variance @ 14.52% heavy OTC, preceded only by the 898 Knauss.

Hey Kyle is just trying to help out. Its a rare seed and I see why hed wish them to find a good "experienced" home. Sometimes the written word is much harder to interpret ones meaning. Its funny how a good idea can be so easily twisted. Kyle, good idea and its awesome you will share!

All extra 730's requested and accounted for guys, thanks so much for offering to give a great seed/plant a good home! Despite my previous poor choice of words, I'm glad that 4 of these plants will get grown by various growers to help keep the genetics and lineage going in at least a small part of today's gene pool. I think highly of this lineage or I wouldn't have bothered making them available, sorry if I offended anyone.

Speaking of germination rates...I had 12- 879Rockwells* not germ or not make it to a happy start, zero for three in 1082Plattes, zero for three in 703Smiths*, zero for threee in 350Pistono*, missed on a 940Mombert00, and numerous 539Stellpflugs*....anyone successfull with these seeds?

Sniff,,,,,FINE Interview the bees yaSELF!
I have great success with orchard fert mix and pure water. Soak the seeds in the sun 2/3days and then keep them warm in soil.
I still want to try pumpkin guts and hydrogel as a seed starter. My sweet tater slips were wraped in gel and paper.

I missed on 3 940 Mombert 00's(frustrating). I'm not blaming the seeds, but my own lack of germinating practice.

If you don't mind a word from a "FNG" Try clipping the seeds with toenail clippers.....I have had 100% germination and growth
