Is it over when the second true leaf dies off? I have two plants that received mud from a hard rain and looks to have rotted the second leaf off. There's nothing left but a little stub. Will it recover?

i think your plant needs to be protected enough via a greenhouse or SOMETHING so that this sort of problem doesn't get to your plant....protect any others at all costs!

Agreed!,I sure hope that wasnt my 572 that rotted! Your the only one besides my self growing it in the entire world,Now thats saying something,or is it?,LOL
