I sprayed my plants with Malathion and Daconil the other night and it burnt the leaves pretty bad. I mixed it very lightly in a gallon of water(About 1 tsp. in the gallon). Does anyone know what could have caused this?
Thanks, Mikkal

Did you harden of your plants before exposing them to direct sunshine? Otherwise it is sort of like me going to Florida in February. I burn up like a piece of bacon.

I agree. Be very careful with both. I know specifically with Daconil it will burn new plants. I used a quart spray bottle with about 1/2 tsp or less and tried to spray the ground around the plants at this early stage to keep the fungi away. I did get the leaves a little but the minute amount in the mist did not hurt. Later I was warned of the potential burn.

any spraying on young plants or young leaves is a bad idea in most cases, they burn really easy. Wait until the plant gets older and the leaves harden up. Jimmy

I had the fish and sea weed mixed real lightly and sprayed the young leaves with one plant, wont do that again,Burnt little spots on the leaves where the water droplets sat.

If the plants stayed wet too long following the spray because of humidity then this is a common situation. Plus they were too young. The last 3-4 leaves on any plant are very sensitive to spray injury. Chances are, most plants right now have little more leaf area than that anyway.

I transplanted a 1458 on sunday night without hardening it off. Big Mistake! First leaf is totally bleached out. I think it will survive, but I won't do that again. Do you really need to be spraying right now anyway?

My opinion based on growing just four is to "not spray" anything on the first four to six newest leaves. That is all that a lot of us are looking at right now.
That goes for the first four to six leaves, on each secondary as they develop all through the plant's development.

Malathion is harsh stuff for a young plant...easy does it! I wiped out an entire adult plant with it and Thiodan last year at a half-strength rate...
