I have a zuchini plant, that the stem has split almost at ground level, the plant looks healthy otherwise, is it a gonner? what are the possible causes?

it should be ok; reason might be inconstant moisture in the soil along with temperature extremes;

A Zuchinni....You are worried about a zuchinni...lol.. Plant another one from the package..Its not like there are any $400 zuchinni seeds out there.

I have a Zuchnni that grows so fast a ground hog was strangled while trying, to eat it. I'll take a little less than the crazy $400.00 seed offer above.

For $300.00 Health and Safety warnings will be in writing.

One zuch is enough (if the stem is broke half way, 1/2 a plant is enough!!!), I made the mistake of planting 4 one year, I got so sick of eating zuch I just let the plants grow out. 20lb+ Zuch's make good target practice.
