Depends on the weighoff date. Oakland nursery in Columbus & Stow's weighoff are both weighoffs in Ohio during mid-Oct. You still have plenty of time to start for those........Paul

Ya I was asking the same question 2 weeks ago, as I started my back-ups 2 weeks ago and "may" end up starting a few more back-ups as my current ones soaked in Hydrogen Peroxide are growing funky, Curled up tight coats and funky looking true leafs all cruled up as well.

i would keep starting them until june if i had to with hopes of maybe getting a big one for halloween. for competition, a june 1st start would get you near pollination at august 1st which would give you 60 days of growth until the weigh off. if some late season warming tactics are used like joe ailts last year(i believe it was joe), with some plastic covering the entire plant, then maybe the late season growth would still be steady. you can get a pretty decent size kin in 60 days, but if it was still growing at the time of the weigh-off, it would be hard to snip it early if it could keep growing until the weather permits it to stop. starting seeds right now can still get a good one set by about july 15th and have plenty of time to grow for a weigh off i would think.

I'm a long time fan of 0.035% hydrogen peroxide soaking, its a shame to see it getting a bad rep because are using it some 80x stronger.

Steve, last december i was in mexico with my wife. we went on what was supposed to be a jungle hike to see some Mayan ruins.....anyway, during the hike, i stumbled upon a plant that was most definatly from the curcubit family. it had abuot a 2' vine on it, and it was most likely not planted by a human. it probably wasnt an AG, but since you asked, i figured id chime in with something.

Scott,
We'll need to include the Mayan ruins in this years patch tour. It's time to freshen the gene pool again so we'll need some of those Mexican seeds.
You in?

Hey, lets all remember the therory to "replicate nature". Scratching "filing" the edges of the seed to allow moisture to have it's way with the seed once temps get high enough for 7 days or so is what our seeds want. Take a look at your avg. temp charts for your area and soak seeds with filed edges about a week earlier. 90 % plus germ rate from here.
