Mark, on this! "I will never again plan, on setting one out until the tenth or so, in May".
Anyone else swear off, of pushing mother, to the limits?
I hope I never see another yo yo weather year like this. Mercy did I ever pay the price, for going out early. Maybe just maybe we are back in business on our third planting.

no worse than any other year, only worse if it continues all summer like it did last year. May and June were nice here last year, the rest sucked....

I thought I was patient this year. I have one plant tha made it. I have one that will probably make it and I have another seed waiting for almost two weeks and I can now see the seed emerging from the peat pot. Ho e that one makes it. Because I am not certain that the second one will survive. I don't know if I have time to plant another one. Stupid weather. Seventy degrees for a couple days then frost the next. Almost at average temps now.

This makes 2 bad May's in a row. Last year we had too much rain, a flood,2 frosts, 3 hail storms and a tornado pass by less than a mile away in the first 2 weeks after planting. This year it is just cold and dry, with a later frost than last year.

This May is much like last year; very cool and wet. Careful planning for the worst will get you through it every time.

I just planted my first 3 plants of the year outside about an hour ago. I'll be planting another one or two plants hopefully by this Saturday. If the weather hits average temps. or better for the next 6 weeks, my plants should be doing O.K. I would guess. Good luck to everyone!

Mine are still under grow lights in my garage and will go out in the next few days. The threat of frost is still here.....

We got a heavy frost last night. I haven't checked the plants yet, but they should be fine unless the lightbulbs burnt out.

i planted mine on april 15th and my main vine is about 6 feet long now. I noticed the colder weather slowed the growth way down but its getting very warm here now and the vines are really taking off.
I also put out my melons and cantaloupe at the same time and they are all doing very well now.
My tomatoes are setting on and my corn is about 2 feet tall so i guess its better to live in the southern part of the usa

We love to chat on our woes and no goes don't we? Mother and I have had quite a battle this spring. I think she is tring, to make a man...or a fool, of me. Not sure which? :)
If she would stay with the fool efforts her distance, to success, would be a bit shorter.
I may now have two happy plants growing. Hope so anyway.

If we don't dry out soon I may not get a ripe tomato or ear of sweet corn from the garden this year. Pumpkins are about all that's out there other than the salad fixins and things that I could plant early becuase they could tolerate a frost. I tried tilling again last Saturday and ended up with 10 lbs. of mud stuck to each shoe. You can't plant anything in that. It stayed dry Sunday, but has rained hard every day since so it's not looking good for this weekend either. I'm glad I don't depend on farming for a living.

Chris...So far were at over 2" of rain which is over twice our normal amount. This is very discouraging! The big winds of over 25 mph blew the open doors off my hoophouses. My tomato plants fell over in my greenhouse as they got just too tall because I could not get them outside in the soil!

I never had a problem getting a transplant, to perk up and get going. This year even with my close care and observation I have had, to transplant, three times, in one cold frame and four, in another.
Today I moved one, of the two frames and set the fifth backup plant, in that frame.
It appears that I now have one growing well and one I hope will now take off and behave properly.
I am now planning, to take the patch with me, to weigh off so the pumpkin may finish, on the trip. Anyone have a 30' X 50' low boy with 2' side boards they could loan me, for a week? :)
