Are they one in the same or close?
Who sells Merit?
Is it too late/too soon to apply?

I am not sure if they are the same. I used a bag of Spectracide. I think it is triazizide. Merit is a product name and is available at any garden center or Agway. It is pretty common. I found the Spectracide at Ocean State Job Lot for $13 a bag. If you want to nuke your whole patch try Warrior T.

Spectracide is the manufacturer of the consumer oriented product Triazicide which contains the active ingredient Lambda-cyhalothrin. The commercial product that is used in Agriculture is called Warrior Zeon. The professional Turf & Ornamental & Pest Control market versions are Scimitar, Battle, Suspend, Demon, etc. It is a contact insecticide in the second generation pyrethroid family with fast knockdown & 3 weeks of residual. It is a current benchmark product but there are superior pyrehtroids like Bifenthrin that last at least a full week longer & control several additional pests (primarily Mites). We use Lambda-cyhalothrin here in CT starting in late June for Cucumber Beetles though adult Squash Vine Borers are also controlled when the sprays are timed correctly.
Merit is made by Bayer. Imidacloprid is the active ingredient. It has some contact properties but is used primarily as a soil applied systemic that lasts up to 90 days on fast growing crops like AGs. Pro Ag versions are Admire, Provado, Gaucho, etc. Pro Greenhouse is Marathon. Pro Turf & Ornamental is Merit, Bandit, Zenith & Submerge. Many others are in the works now that the patent is expired but all of these are still made by Bayer as is evidenced by the identical EPA Registration numbers. Pro Pest Controls versions also abound primarily for Termite control.
Imidacloprid also controls Cuke Beetles (and aphids, whiteflies, etc) & according to my own personal observastions, does a fair job on SVB when the rate & timing are good.
I sell Lambda-cyhalothrin as Battle which is a restricted use pesticide.
I also sell Merit in the pro version only (largest Merit salesperson in the USA - LOL) which is not restricted use in any state but New York where the politicians are more concerned with their individual political careers than the realities of environmental sciences or toxicology.
