I was just wondering how cool a temp your young plants can handle before they start to get damage to them?, I know that freezing will kill them and 80-85 degrees f is just about perfect, but what about low temps at night? I have "chilling injury" to 3 of my plants and the lowest the temp got was 45 degrees f,and I failed to cover them, won't make that mistake again.

If the temp goes below freezing and starts a frost or ice on your plant, your plant will suffer badly or die. Supposetly if the temperature goes below 5'Celcius whatever that is in Ferienhiet, all plant growth comes to a halt. For maximum temperatures you don't want to exceed 120'F, if even that high. I like keeping my plants around 90 to 100'F, they grow real good in that. If too hot the plant wilts from heat stress

Last night the temp inside dropped to 55 F so I added another small ceramic heater to keep it hopefully near 60 to 65 tonight.

Thanks for the reply,5 celcius would be 41 Fahrenheit, that is more then likely way too cold for an AG, I could see why it would stop growing. Three of my plant stopped growing and one turned glossy white, I looked it up in the Cucurbits leaf guild and it says it was chilling injury, so I think the best thing to do is try to keep them above 55 f, I have put covers over them at night, seems to help, it does not pay to be lazy growing these awsome plants. thanks again for the reply Ag growers.

LOL very funny. Here is a question for you. If you melt dry ice could you swim without getting wet? LOL

My neighbour planted his cucumbers in the 6th leaf stage about a week ago. It went down to 40 at night 2 days ago and now it´s over for the plants.
So actually you don´t need frost to kill them. Everything between frost and 45 F is likely to damage or even destroy your plants.

In my first year (late year) I had several nights where it got down into the upper 30's in the hoophouses and my plants never suffered any damage besides growing slow. (night time lows in the lower 20's outside the hoop houses)
