I am planning to set my plants out this week. Any advice on how deep to plant them? The stems are pretty long..probably 5-7 inches. Shoud I set them deep like right up to the leaves or can that kill them like it will a tree?

Take a look in the 'How to...' There's an article about planting depth, especially about those long stems.

i just read that article, and maybe there is some merit in planting it up to the cots....but, the article implys that it takes a week for the height of the seedling to be above the rim of the coffee can. if you're in a coffee can for a week, you're already starting to get root bound.

Bury them right up to the cots. It will not hurt them at all.

I just discovered a seedling growing from a seed that was in my compost pile from last year. It had to have been about 8" deep in the soil, and it still fiound the light. The stem was freakishly long.
