My 1370 failed to germinate. After several days, I removed it from the seed coat to check it out. The tip was brown. Not soft or smelly, just dark brown. I stuck it back in the pot to give it a second chance. After another week, still nothing. So, on a whim, I decided to just stick the tip of the seed into the soil and expose the cot section to grow lights. The cots are trying to open, and are actually turning green. Still no root formation. Obviously, this won't be a competition plant, but if it does manage to put out some form of root growth before the cots die I'm going to try to grow it. My question is, how would the genetics be affected if I used this plant as a pollinator? Provided I can get it to grow. Has anyone ever tried to green up a seed that didn't sprout?

Can't say this has ever happened here. If you had some rooting hormone & used it at a very dilute rate you might replace the elements this seed "forgot" to produce at inception. Whether it works would depend on the amount of energy stored in the embryo & the speed with which the cots can begin to photosynthesize nutrients.

I don't *think* this would clearly indicate a genetic defect potential in the seeds resulting plant....but it might.

Yeah Monty..seed genetics are better left to the more vibrant plants...Work and wait all year...why ake a chance on a flat, double or questionable germination...Lost my first batch already..not blaming the seeds lost my incubator and this new one is driving me nuts!

You both brought up interesting points. I'll try to get some rooting hormone this evening after work, if it's not to late. The cots are still turning green, but very slowly. If it does grow somehow, I think I will find a spot to grow it, possibly snake style and self it. If something in this seed was "forgotten", as you mentioned Steve, it may have a genetic defect, that could possibly be passed on to its progeny. Since it didn't germinate, there is certainly something wrong with it. I wonder if it is like a baby with a genetic birth defect. I'll get some pics posted in my diary this evening.

I had a 1049 Koch plant that did the same thing in 2003. It never grew a main vine or set a root system. It lived in the Cot stage until Mid June.

Well, it's a moot point now. I took it out to check for roots, and the cots came apart. No 1370 this year. Sorry Jerry. On the other hand, the 1367.5 is up and doing well, should go into the patch Thursday, or Friday, depending on work.
