I didn't till any gypsum into the soil when preparing the patch this spring. Is it possible to spread it on the surface of the soil and water it in? Will it percolate into the ground?

Calcium is a rather insoluble element thus it is better to incorporate it as best you can. It is not likely the roots have run very far yet, so careful tilling should still be possible.

yes if at all possible till it in besides nutrients it really helped condition my soil & seemed like it made it more controllable to dial the soil in
