Does any one know if iron in the soil or the adding iron has any effect on pumpkin plants and pumpkin size. The only reason I ask is the checkons are spokes persons for a product called Ironite. They claim that Ironite Is the reson for their world record pumpkins.

I threw some of the product called Ironite on the patch this year and have no complaints. I'm certainly not growing a "Moonie" or "Whomper" this year, but I have noticed a lot of healthy rooting. Ironite has a web page at "www.ironite.com" I haven't been doing this long enough to say that the product made a difference yet, but I have some school kids that might be willing to do some controlled tests for me this fall. The bulk of the info on the companies web page is about the product enhancing root growth, which in turn contributes to everything else. I imagine after this season there will be more pumpkin data to look at.

I have been foliar feeding the liquid ironite, I really think it is helping. The liquid has nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium. It seems to reduce yellowing leaves, and enhance growth of the pumpkin.

Hi Mark!

I tried ironite on one plant this year, and can't really see any difference over the other plants. This plant was slow to start and behind others, but is now starting to show lots of vine growth.( I believe the Checkons added ironite only once before planting.) Note: It also contains lead and arsenic which could remain in your soil, I would think twice before eating anything from this patch!
