I have built myself quite the contraption this yr...lol
now I am just wondering how to put a dingly dangly door on it?
this is me second yr growing giants and last yr I didnt mind rolling around in the dirt and mud of my hoop houses...but I would prefer not too...if ya know what I mean!
so this yr I decided to build a giant hoop house/greehouse, the kind you can walk through (will have pic's shortly) currently it is 14'Wx40'Lx6'H, It has 2x6's for a base then 3/4" pvc pipe for the frame 3 ft apart..now comes the real test...putting the 50' of plastic on!
I am trying to plan this out so I can use it for a couple/three months then leave the frame for next yr....with the NW climate it may have to stay longer.

anyways...what I am gettin at is.....
I am looking to put some sort of door on it so I can easily come and go without having to roll 14' of plastic 6ft high everytime...
if anyone has any pictures of there inventions..e-mail me or post it for me...so I can look.
suggestions are welcome but would like pics too, pls. I will eventually figure something out for it, maybe if I see something I like from one of ya...I will name my first pumpkin of the yr after ya!
keep in mind it is rounded, 14ft wide 6ft tall and will need to be somewhat air-tight to maintain temp.
I know someone has to have pic's of this...or know where to find a similar contraption...
need help quick!,...plants will be going out-side in a wk. or less.
now if it would only stop raining..............

I guess first of all, what are you needing for a door. only for walk in access. then 3 ft wide is good. Do you want it hinged or totally removable. I would suggest taking a 4x8 sheet of plywood. size it to 36" x 60". Once you have done this draw a 6 inch perimeter line all the way around the sheet, cut out the centre of the sheet and then the piece you cut off originally, 12' x 96 inches, rip it in half so you have 2 pieces 6" X 96 inch.
Place poly on the door piece, the one with the hole in it and strech it fairly well, now take the 6 inch pieces and screw them on over the poly. should give you all the door you need. Oh ya i would use a 3/4 inch thick sheet of plywood.
Supports for the door should be a min. of 2X4's. The opening should be 1/2 an inch bigger than the door to give room for opening and closing. On the inside of the 2X4's put on a door stop, can be anything you have around. but ideally it should be 3/4 inch thick and 2 inches wide. This gets fastened to the inside edge so the door doesn't swing through. Install 2 hinges and a gate latch and you have an outswing door that seales up when closed for about 50 bucks. Hope this gives you an idea. I just built 8. I can send you pictures if you like. An other thing, make sure the door swings out, if you swing it in, it will rip the roof poly when you open the door past 90 degrees, all to @#@$$%%. Experience talking there lol

You might be able to use something as simple as this zipper that is made to stick onto tarps to make a door.

I don't know where you can get it other than Canadian Tire (which you obviously don't have in the USA). And, it's not really worth the drive to Vancouver :-) So, maybe you can find something similar or figure out a makeshift version with a zipper from a fabric store and some duct tape.

They have a website: http://www.tarplineproducts.com/contactus/index.html

The factory is in BC. And, it looks like they may have an office in Seattle.

I actually framed in the one side of my hoophouse(treated lumber). I also built a door that swings out.(ouch eddy). The wind still puts a beating to it. How are you ventilating your contraption. :)

Cover half the opening with plastic. Cover the other half with a seperate piece of plastic, overlapping the first by a few inches, and use self sticking velcro.
