I've got a family of crows who have built a nest about 25 feet up in my Pondarosa pine tree in my backyard. Has anyone had problem with pumpkins and crows, or other veggies? My neighbour is begging me to shoot them. That's kind of illegal in town. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of them? I've got little kids and a dog and I don't want to use any poison.
Thanks
Alan

Maybe getting one of those fake hacks or owls might work. Not sure on that, but you could also find a cheap noise maker and put it by the nest. Get one that makes a loud gunshot noise like they use in cherry farms, just not as loud or your neighbors would shoot you.

Just wait until the summer heats up a bit and the mosquitoes get going and maybe west nile will get them just as it did here...Knocked our crow population way down, and I kind of miss them ( caw..caw..caw..), as the crow is very vulnerable to west nile, as is the magpie........

Alan: I had a problem with them last year and they chipped away at one of my young pumpkins until I discovered who it was. I bought a pellet gun.

We have crows and ravens here and it seems like Cozmo the cat is keeping the birds away. I have not seen any dead birds around here so I guess they are staying away.

In Germany they have the "DEATH POND".
Seems crows are attacking toads/frogs and doing on the spot
liver removal. They dont eat anything else.

When the crows amass in the big oak behind my property,
I hit them with recorded gunshot noise.
They dont come back for a month or two.
The oak was the "meeting" place for scores of crows.

some what cruel but very effective rat poison in meat, unpopped popcorn cernals with horse tail hair crazy glued to them (choke to death), lastly a lot of dry rice, they eat it get a drink and explode like the toads in germany. not that i suggest any of these but they will work but they are not discriminating for they will kill all animals that eat the stuff. calling a local pest control would be the most human but most costly.

I agree Dave. They raid other bird's nests also. They are not an endangered species (except for the ones that enter our yard).

We have crows in our neighborhood too, but the only “damage” they do is by picking bones left in the garden from our dog and dropping them on the neighbors roof... it took some time to figure out how they got there!
In your case I would relax and propose the same to the neighbor.. oh yeah, and do not park cars under that tree, they like to play “lets shit on that shiny thing” :-)

Aren't crows attracted to owls?
One of the best ways to hunt crows is to have a decoy crow and play over speakers recording of owl and crow fight. I've seen it. . .crows come rushing in from every direction

Ok, I'm getting rid of the buggers. My 2 kids (2 and 4) and I were outside today and witnessed a crow going after a little chickadee It ended with the crow flying off with the bird. Do you think spraying their nest with my jet nozzle will help?
I'm on a mission now.

You need to knock the nest out of the tree. If you don't they will return next year to the same spot.
Actually if you hook up your jet nozzel to a barrel of gas and use it as a flame thrower you should get rid of the crows. LOL make sure your house insurance is up to date.
On another note too bad with the 1097. Mine is doing great and so is the one in Lloydminster. It would have been good conversation at the weigh off with 3 1097's there. Oh well, and I don't have anymore or I'd have given you another.

Alan, the only good crow is a dead crow. I've seen them rip the seedlings right out of the soil. I like to use the 12 gauge to keep them out of my patch.
