Sometimes we eat the bear and sometimes the bear eat us. Mother Nature kicked my butt last night in spite of the fact the low inside the boxes shows at 34 degrees.

We lost the great 1079.5 Beachy and the Kuhn 846 Calai X 723 cross.

NOW IT IS TIME TO STEP BACK AND PUNT. We do have nice backup plants ready to go in tomorrow, when this cold front is moving on.

Sorry Tom and Jim. This will not be the year. :)

Sorry to hear about your loss Doc.This spring sure has been a crazy one in the north east. Wish it would warm up and at least stay in the 40's here at night or more.

Doc - Maybe a blankie over box next time?

You still got plenty of time.
A week of lost time now only translates to about one day lost in Aug or Sept.

Thank you. Thank you all. I just got the ultimate surprise.
If the Postal Service does not screw up to badly a new 1097.5 will be in the patch within two days. I have a back up ready for the J. Kuhn 855.

You have heard this before...now hear it again. Someone I have never met but have worked with is sending me a 1097.5 with first true leaf peeking.

This is even better than the cute little blond that wanted to park her slippers under my bed by E invitation. }:o)
It is! That wouldn't take long while the pumpkin will amuse me all summer. :) :)))

My records indicate that this past night, on my hillside dipped even below the local reading at the airport by the river.

I did have the sucker under blankets and with 100 watt bulbs, to warm her britches. The first two nights were OK but the third one was the charm.

The tomatoes in gallon pots sitting eight inches higher in the same cold frame box were not hit. Talk about micro climates.

Hang in there Doc!...Plenty of time for backups...It would be nice if you can get em through these two weeks but if Ya can't still plenty of time for a fresh plant in warmer soil to do the same thing...always tell my newbies who are trying to grow thir first AG to wait a couple of weeks if they don't have hoop houses..better warm then cold..You'll be back and get a PB....Good Luck!
