I am looking for a place where I can get some soil heating cables of reasonable length (25 to 35 feet), and I need six of them. I am hoping to spend no more than 150 dollars, the less the better. Hope someone can help me, the best I can find so far is 25$ for 24 ft., & 28$ for 36 ft. at Charley's Greenhouse. Hope someone can help here. Oh, it would help if that place accepted cheques.

I forgot to mention, the 48 footer at Charlie's Greenhouse is 29.95$. If I can't find anything better, I'll probably go with the 36 footer, for three extra dollars I can get 12 feet more of cable. But I am just trying to see if I can find an even better price for around a 24 to 36 foot range length.

Pay attention to the wattage. I bought some cheap ones at Charleys, but they don't work nearly as well as the ones I ended up carrying at PS.com.

I have the cheap 30 dollar ones from Charlies. They were put in 2 days ago about 6 inches down and I was able to get the soil temp up to 70 degrees in 24 hours. I was skeptical about how good they were going to be for 30 bucks but pleasantly suprised at the outcome so far. I used the 48 footers.

This is "one of those things" where it seems like the going price is "out of line" with what you get. I ordered cables once... "wires" was more like it. I think they cost a buck or less to produce and go for $20 or more.....
Sorry, I must be having a bad day. Maybe I should go into the heating cables business...

The thermistat is where the money is not the wire itself.

WOW! a few people on the boards tonight. Okay, I'm going to have to qualify that by saying it is limited to stock on hand. As of right now I have 24 left in stock. After they're gone. I probably won't re-order until fall.
Thanks,
Matt

Sorry Folks. All Gone. The 40 feet heavy duty cables That Charley's sells are the same ones I had. You just have to pay more for theirs. Given that we're still in our first season and don't want to have to sit on too much inventory, I probably won't be stocking the soil heating cables again until this fall.
Gro-Quick is the brand for most of the heating cables you will find. The cable lengths that are divisible by 6 are generally the light-weight cheaper cables, and the cable lengths divisible by 20 are going to be the heavy duty ones that we carried. I strongly suggest going with a heavy duty cable wherever you decide to purchase them. I had both out in my garden and the heavy duty cables provided much better coverage and protection.
