Ok, I know there have been a few of these threads... but today I found one of my spotted "friends" crawling on the side of my hoophouse. I smooshed him immediately but man, I've never heard of cuke beetles in april!

Oh I forgot to add. You may need to turn the box upside down, and shake it real good as they are way towards the bottom.

roflol! Good one, Shannon!!! I will make sure to forward the package to Owen as soon as it gets here. However, I will have to tell him these are 805s instead of 801.5s. LOL

Christy, I don't think we have pests or diseases (at least none that occur on pumpkin plants) that you don't have.
Our main problem is powdery mildew from late August on. Some years there are minor problems with snails, slugs, aphids or spider mites but that's it.

But hey, don't we already have enough problems with our German weather? No need for cuke beetles to ruin the season! LOL

I had a dozen or so of what looked like cucumber beetles on my asparagus last week. I squashed all I found, and dusted with Sevin and have only found one since then...he got squished too!

Never seen A cucumber beetle but I've got the oddest strain of yellow Ladybugs you've ever seen...some of the dots on the more wierd ones almost look like they have stripes instead of dots...

Cuke beetles are "retarded" last year on any given day "since the male flowers appeared" I could go out to the patch and find 20-30 cuke beetles mateing all over the plants i tried everything till I finally gave up ( when plants turned yellow and died) hopefully this year they dont show up LOL funny thing is, my father grows AG'S as well and hes only an 5 minute drive from my house and he only saw 2-3 all year, everytime i was over there I never saw one, Maybe its due to my backyard is more bushy and covered in then his. donno

I might get challenged on this but I figure ten returning to ground is a thousand chewing on your roots just about now. They likely do more damage chewing than spreading about the milldews. Milldew transportation is their main above ground task in nature.

Secondly they seem to colonize. Why not. That patch of your's has lots of flower pollen. They cycle two weeks fattening up on pollen and then they return to soil to lay eggs.

Those eggs are hatching right now. Guess what is getting eaten?

Much as I hate to use the stuff Merit will do them in if you make contact immediately. Some will still surface and you can do two things. One Neem Oil will get them above ground. Two pull all flowers you do not need. They will not have their food chain, in your patch. That will help and makes sense. As soon as you are safely finished with the flowers, both male and female, get rid, of them. Bag them. Thrown, on a pile somewhere, is just a relocated diner.
