How Lone can a plant say in a pot before planting outside?

10 Days Maximum and this is with a gallon pot. The tap root will bottom out quickly...Then you will have transplant shock...Most growers only keep them in the pot until the 1st true leaf shows.

I use 3 gallon buckets (cut in half and taped together) and they will do it for 3 weeks before planting outside in early May. I change the location of the buckets depending on weather and temps to start with a well acclimatized plant. Also helps to identify the first vine and to decide early if some plant might need a backup. I never plant 2 outside to wait and look and pull 1 later, just a waste of seeds in my opinion.

3 days after cotyledon emergence is the max for myself, thats using 1/2 gallon ice-cream containers as planters.

All answers are accurate. Anything longer in pot or in smaller pot is a stress on the new plant.
