Lablab purpureus In parts of Australia, it has become a major leguminous forage & green manure crop, replacing cowpeas. Slower growing than Cowpeas, Lablab has later growth, more biomass & nitrogen. The robust plants are trailing vines to upright annuals, reaching 10' in length. It puts on its best growth in warm humid areas but it is drought resistant & with a well-prepared seedbed, it can be grown in dry areas. Can be grown south to latitude 30° & up to elevations of 6,500'. Use for cover crop, hay or forage. Adapted to a wide range of soils & tolerates a pH range of 5-7.5. Matures in 60-90 days. It does not tolerate waterlogged or saline soils & phosphate levels should be adequate for best results. Plant these large seeds in rows 8"-40" apart, drilled at 9-13lb/acre or broadcast at 22 lb/acre or 1-2 lb/1,000 sq ft.
