Can't find the 4" peat pots anywhere. Any suggestions? Would go for bigger size if available.

AndyMan........quick eat up as many round half gallons of ice cream as you need pots. Look in my diary 2004 and 2003 how to turn those "round" ice cream containers into excellent seed starting pots.
The fun is making the pots empty, in the first place. :)
You need bigger pots for these fast growing critters.

Do they guarantee these fast growing roots will find a way out of the pot in time? From my own experience I doubt that.

just like Joel shows us in the videos, you have to put holes in them for the roots to get out....at least a dozen i would say; i use a 3/8" drill to put the holes in mine. most times i remove the peat pot or most of it as i plant them into the ground anyway, if the roots are not protruding profusely. this may be bad, but better than the supposed pot-boundedness.....eric

I have used these exclusively for the past 10 or so years..BUT I am the type of guy who moves plants outside as soon as the seedling breaks ground....My tech. is to pre cut all bottoms off the pots and then place the filled peat pot back on the bottom....once the seed breaks ground..I predig a hole in the patch....slide the bottom off and place in the hole...back fill around the pot/...gently cut the pot down both sides 180° apart...and pull out..end result is a transplanted seedling with zero root disturbance. It works wonderful BUT I would not try and "hold" a plant ina 4 inch pot. the main tap is almost always visible when you gently side off the precut bottom....seems to work for me DAN CARLSON

Ya forget the peat pots, This winter I used 2 liter bottles of pepsi ( containers) for my seed testing.
I planted my seeds 1" down beneath the soil and even before the sprout would break the soil the roots were already hitting the bottom of the pepsi bottle.
This year I am useing the "upside Down" ice cream container trick, Seeds will be started April 30th then transplanted out into the patch a week to 2 weeks after ( at latest)
