Steveman,
I live about 27 miles N.E. of Kiowa,Colorado,(75 mi. E. of Denver),and we got hammered with it.The snow just stopped, and we have 16" on the level, and 4-5ft.drifts,with up to 6ft. drifts around the house. The wind was 30-40mph with up to 60mph blasts, and you literally could NOT see 200 ft.at times.
Steve,I have lived in Colorado all my life (35 yrs.),and I can honestly say that I have NEVER seen it snow that hard, wind,or not.I even had lived in Brekenridge,Co.at 9600ft.,and never seen it snow that hard there,as it did here yesterday.Blizzards out here on the plains can be fierce, and I can see how the Ingels family from "The Little House On The Prarie" han such a hard frigg'in time, lol.
We live on a ponderosa-forested ridge,at about 6500ft,and in some places, where the slope drops off abruptly, there are over-hangs of snow going out like 10-15ft,and up to 12 ft. deep.INCREDIBLE. Good thing we have food/wood/water for like a month here.I-70-(28 mi.N. of us) has been closed for almost 24hrs from Aurora,to Kansas, and hwy 86 (25
s. of us) is also closed from Limon,Co.,to Franktown,so we are REALLY stuck for a while here,But at least I have some brandy, and plenty of beer to keep me alive (thank god!).

7th year of drought here. This is the worst of the seven. Snow is gone, ground is dry and farmers are in the fields. That much snow would put a damper on my pumpkin plans but most people around here would really welcome it.

We had tornado warnings here last night. I already have a plant out so you can imagine the fear. I have never been afraid of tornadoes or really noticed the wind until this year. IT WONT LET UP! But all is well and the plant is fine.

I din't use enough sunblock this weekend and ended up with a little sunburn on my face. It backed down to the 60's today but was over 70 yesterday. Sorry to hear about the snow so late in the year.

After a very dry Winter, the Spring rains have been nearly non-stop. We had a dry day yesterday so I was able to get
some patch work done.

Spring rains have let up for this week. Nice weather, mid 70's today and maybe warmer tomorrow. Finally getting alot of work done out in the yard and the patch. Just about got my long gourd trellis done :) My dad retired last summer and he's hooked on the giant pumpkin thing now too. He's already got 2 early plants in the ground. :)

It's been a mild(warm) spring so far. We are now having a few days of needed rain. No complaints here.

Here on the front range of Colo. , we have had a generous season the last year or so, as We had the coldest, wettest, hailiest, and crappiest weather since they kept records the summer os 2004, now we finally get a medium size blizzard, and get a lot of relief on our water supply, and they still keep us on 2-day a week water restrictions for the summer.......Greedieness at its best. Water=money around here, and anyone wishing to have a life in argiculture here in colorado without gov't interference in your water affairs, well it is time to move elsewhere....Water is becoming like oil around here as the price it seems goes up, and the production goes down everyday day......Even if we all had to build an ark like noah, there still would not be enough water to go around to sink the polititions and the water deals they put in their pockets...

in the past 2 weeks we had two rainstorms that totaled 6.7 inches of rain in our backyard. Some places had 7 to 8 inches of rain. Last week they closed roads, bridges along the Susquehanna River. They made firehouses, churches and schools a place where people could stay till the river subsided. Some places it took several days. I saw on the weather last night that they are advising that because of the dry conditions that they are suggesting that people do not start any outdoor fires near trees woods and forrests and other dry areas. One weatherman even said that includes cigarette smoking which can also start fires. Our garden now is back to normal moisture wise but a fire warning because of dryness? Possible but considering how much rain we had, doesn't seem likely. Only one wooded area fire in this area this past week.
