Has anyone ever used this product from hydro-gardens.com?
The product is listed as broad spectrum control.
I was wondering how broad.?.
The email the company rep.sent me told me it would 'work well' against Squash bugs & SVB.?.
I would hate to lose my plants with a 'work well' product.
I have used beneficial nematodes before had so/so results but have never used them with pumpkins.
thanks for any help .

Ed,

The only beneficial parasitic Nematodes that I am aware of are those that live in the soil. Therefore the pest we are targetting must also dwell or at least spend some singnificant time buried in the nematode treated soil. Squash Vine Borers do spend their larval stage in soil. But the adults also fly so....

Cucumber beetles also spend time pupating & feeding in the patch soil taking only 9 weeks to complete a life cycle. So nematodes might very well control these succeptible life stages. However once again I would be concerned of the adult fliers who pupate on non-treated soil nearby.

Perhaps in areas where no other cucurbits are being grown within some miles of the AG patch nematodes might offer acceptable control. But I'd like to see some efficacy studies first.

I have used them for grub control. But it is difficult to really know the results. I still had grubs but I can only assume it was less than without using them.

I don't plan on using them again. I'll stick with Merit.

Ed,
Also, I specifically remembered 400SF referenceing Gaurdian nematodes. Here is the link. There are a lot of discussion on the benifits that may help you is you do a search.

Here is the link I was thinking of:

Brent, I will be using the nematodes again this season, as I feel they really could be a benefit considering the circumstance of the given year...As some bug years are worse than others..Depends I guess on a lot of variables. The link you posted pretty much explains it all...http://bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=3&p=70881 Happy growing........
