If you had your choice to grow either 735 Pukos or 869.5 Calai.....which would you grow and why ????.....

735 produced (2004) 1179, 1042, 2 900, 7 800...
869 produced (2004) 1125, 629, 627, and 573...
I would grow the 735.

Depends, are you going strictly for size or the largest pumpkin in the new beauty contest category.
735 for the largest, 869 for the largest beauty winner.

I would grow the 869.5. My reason is the deeper orange color. It seems that selfed 846 Calai's tend not to be AS orange...still orange, but not as deep. Not sure if this is due to the selfing bringing out the Lloyd genetics and taking away some of the color.
If color isn't the decision maker, then I would also be trying to decide the same thing. Tough choice, Cause the 735 has also proven it can produce some real big ones!

Hey cross the two, then the following year cross it with the 1142 van Kooten...Now that would be hot!!! LOL

if there isnt any color in the patch, go with the 869. Otherwise put in the 735. 869 can make for some good crosses. 869 x 695, ect...very interesting.

i will try a 735 x 869 cross for this year (882 Armstrong).....hopefully i get some good color with weight from this one.
