This may be a non-issue but I thought I would throw this out there.
When I start tan seeds I usually file the edges because of the thick seed coat to help absorb water quicker and then soak them for about 4 hours before putting them in a damp paper towel/sandwich baggie and then off to the germinator.
White seeds have a thinner seed coat. Is filing the edges of white seeds needed or would you just soak them for a few hours then off to the germinator with them.
Just curious if others treat tans seeds differently from white seeds when starting them.
Any thoughts on this? Vince

I soak them till they drop to the bottom,or for three days.
I use a clear plastic soda bottle, and place it in the sun.
Last year i planted outside and none sprouted.
Filing probably helps.
This year i multi seeded the starter pots.
lol.I got 90% plus germination.

I file and soak for 4 hrs, place in starter soil (cover the top of the container with saran wrap to retain moisture), 2 -3 days they emerge (normally, 5 with the tan), placed in germ chamber.

McP, that kinda reminds me of when my wife makes bean soup...come to think of it, I don't remember any of those beans sprouting either. lol

I like the saran wrap idea Tom. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks

Thats a good question Dave. I am planting 2 white seeds this year and they should be very orange...both have 801.5 Stelts genes in them.
As I am typing this, I just remembered there is a white seed that produces white pumpkins...the 1097.5 Beachy.
