What brand is everyone having good luck with? Some say 100ft range others don't state any range. I'm looking for a unit that will do a HEALTHY 100ft range (up to 150ft.) and have the ablility use 2 remote sensors and a possible freeze alarm.

I have the Davis Vantage Pro system. I love it. Its not cheap but works great. My station is on top of my computer and the sensors are 250 feet away. It can be integrated with your computer so that it can do a variety of functions including both high and low temp alarms. I think it can link with 6 or 8 sensors if you need to. I only have two. It can also be used to send information to a web page. I find this extremely usefull in the spring when I have hoophouses up and I want to the check the temp. I can see what is going on in my patch. Check outt he following link to see what I have transmitted to my page.

Although I have not used the Davis System, everything (3 systems) else I have tried was "worthless"!!

Try Radio Shack. I talked to a guy who used them for a smoke house when smoking deer meat. He said it was cheap and worked great. It kept them in the house playing cards drinking beer without having to go outside and check the temperature.

I think that most of the Radio Shack models are made by Oregon Scientific.

I got a cheap weather station at Wal-Mart in Buffalo for $20. It seems to be working OK so far. I've been using the remote sensor to monitor the temperature inside my germinator. The only problem with it is that I may have trouble finding extra sensors for it. I'd rather have a unit from a major manufacturer. But, the nice ones are expensive.

I believe that both Oregon Scientific (http://www.oregonscientific.com) and La Crosse Technology (http://www.lacrossetechnology.com) make models that are specifically designed for extra long distances. Also, I think that one or both of them sell a "repeater" which would extend the range of their receivers. GE also makes wireless thermometers.

Oh, I should mention that I saw what seemed to be some pretty good prices on Oregon Scientific weather stations at Target.

well target had Oregon Scientific on clearance, but only 100ft range units were left. I went to Radio Shack and bought the 300ft unit for 40$ and found out that extra transmiters are NOT being made any more and they had to search other stores to find a second one for me (and they only found a handful) and it should be here next week. My only other options were to order a more expensive unit off the internet for over 200$ + 40$ each transmitters.

Rancher, which model did you get? Just curious in case I decide to upgrade from the one I have now.

model 63-1030 is the base unit setup, 63-1031 is the extra transmitter part number. For those you looking for extra transmitters I found them on Ebay just a little bit ago and purchased 2 more, they still have 7 available. 9.99 each and 3.50 shipping! Ebay # 5765404106

Actually, the thing that I really wonder is if many of these transmitters are actually interchangable. They all seem to work on the same frequency, 433MHz. Could I, for example, use one of those Radio Shack (aka Oregon Scientific) sensors with my crummy Wal-Mart unit?

Anybody know enough about these things to answer?
