It would be great if these lists would move topics back up
to the top when someone responds. That way the worthwhile
discussions stay active longer.

i have been reading up on and investigating this corn gluten thing....i guess one or a few of us need to experiment with it and determine if it affects the secondary rooting. i have read that basically ANY seed planted in soil treated with CGM is likely to NOT sprout.
therefore, one of the experiments will NOT be to sprout an AG seed in CGM-treated soil, lol! not that many of us direct-seed so early anyway.
the short story is that CGM is a pre-emergent herbicide, with a host of benefits. but, does it prevent our secondary roots?
our man Tremor has said that it only affects monocotyledonous (sp.?) (corn?, grasses?) roots trying to form, and that is advice well-placed with me. in fact, i was gonna ask Tremor and docgipe what their opinions were on the subject...
my thought is that if it DOES prevent the secondary rooting, and we are in a panic because of it, DEEPER vine-burying may be the answer...allowing the roots to form into a non-inoculated soil mixture that will let them get a head start before hitting the treated soil. probably easier said than done, but, can be done----good luck-----eric

I used CMG on my turnip patch. Once the turnips were up, I applied the CMG and it kept the weeds seeds from sprouting. You apply cmg once the plant is established.
