This is probaly a stupid question, but when I grow that big one (I am thinking positive here), where can I get it weighed? My vet might have a livestock scale I can use, but I am not sure. Is there any place or organization in Nebraska that anybody knows about that has weigh-offs? I found a website for HGPA (Heartland Giant Pumpkin Assn), but nobody answers my e-mail and there is nothing posted on their events calendar. There is always the State Fair I suppose, but that starts at the end of august. It may be too soon. If I want bragging rights, I have to have proof. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jody

Well, Big Dave, perhaps I would like to go even if I don't have a big one. Unfortunately, I have to work for a living and have to plan days off months in advance. If there is a weigh-off and I want to participate, or just be a spectator, I can't go if I don't know about it waaaaay in advance. Jody

Hopefully you will have more than one. You could plan to take your lesser pumpkin to the state fair.
Then, if you don't find anything in Nebraska, your next bet might be to go east to Iowa or west to Wyoming. I *thing* there is something that they do in eastern Wyoming, but I really don't know. But if you're in the eastern side of Nebraska, Iowa is probably your place. Anamosa is a big site, but that is way over by Cedar Rapids.
By the way... this goes for everyone... you'll get more response if you use a meaningful subject line on your posts. That is, there are people on this list who live in the area and know the answers, but they might not even bother to look at your post, not knowing anything about the real subject. Just a friendly suggestion.

The only stupid question is the one not asked! Depending on where you live in nebraska but if your on the esat side you may Want to attend Anamosa Iowa's contest on October 1st. It is a GPC event. Otherwise I believe there is a non GPC weighoff somewhere in South dakota?

Jody,
If you dont have a weigh off nearby get it weighed on a certified scale with a creditable witness that will attest to its soundness (no splits, rot etc) and it will be accepted by the majority of the masses as official.
