I've noticed the best growth of late when the temps at night are over 65 degrees has anyone else seen the differience. Question number 2 how often does everyone measure there pumpkins. I measure them every day.

I think warm nights are very important too. Too bad we haven't had very many in New England lately! I measure mine a couple of times per week using the OTT method.

Well i measure mine about every day, very addicting sport this pumpkin growing thing is, i like to measure everyday so i know if i gotta add more water or fertilizer, this way is very tiresome though, measuring 8 pumpkina a day can be very tirding, prabably every other day is good, ~Bill

I have lately measured everyother day. I measure on even days. The lows are going to be in the 60's for the next few days Mark. maybe the whole weekend and early next week. That is Very good, get that potassium rolling.

If pumpkins need warm night time temps then I'm in trouble. The highest low I've had is 61, the mid 40's are common and last night it was 36.

My theory is that measuring too often puts a strain on my relationship with my wife and children. That's what I tell them - the truth? The more often you go into your patch the more likely you are to step on a stem or other critical part of a nearby plant. In addition I find myself making paths to the ones I measure making it inviting for animals to follow long after I'm gone. With 27 plants in the ground I measure/graph weekly to insure constant growth. Plants that have stopped growing for 2 or more weeks leaves me with a decision of possibly harvesting for greater control of it's future destiny. Why so many plants? I host a neighborhood pumpkin carving contest the week before Halloween and the winner of various categories is awarded some of my larger pumpkins. In other cases I will provide pumpkins to families that don't have the means to buy a decent pumpkin.
