Do these caution, snow fences really knock the wind? The Fence has a awful lot of BIG open holes and I cant see how it would. Anyone eles use this as wind pretection?
THANKS BROOKS

Thats why they work. There is significantly less wind behind them and the snow is deposited on the down wind side. I've used them for several years. It doesn't eliminate the wind but it cuts it down.

I HAVE used snow fence for 27 year -yes it slows wind down --but it helps the plant get ust to the wind and tuffins the plant up for ever day winds--when you totally protect the plants from the wind and a big one comes they dont do so well--but a 60 mph storm wind gust there not much you can do--craig

snow fences cause a low pressure area to form, and thus the snow falls to the ground and collects as opposed to continuing on blowing with the wind. so basically it forms an area of turbulence.

It really does work. I have an orange plastic snow fence, and it looks so porous that you would think it would not work. But it does.
When I use 3/8 inch rebar to hold it up, the wind will bend the rebar out of shape. (Proof that it works...) You will actually need some beefy supports to keep it from being blown down. Now, if it were any "less" porous, you'd have trouble keeping it up.

Actually a solid wall causes swirls and eddies that buffet the plant more than snow fence, especially at certain angles.

Brooks, where did you get it at? I have a bad wind problem myself.
