Why is it that every time Ray Waterman places anything here that is even close to an advertisement everyone gets so aggravated when almost every day we are submitted to some form of advetisement by PumpkinSupply .com I can recall someone getting bashed for simply making people aware that Exhibition Seeds had Big Zac available. I am not supporting P&P or anyone else but I don't really like being continuously bombarded by PumpkinSupply.com. Am I the only one who feels this way? I am happy the Fertrell products are available but then they always were, from Fertrell.

Ray has been around along time and turned alot of people off. while Jim is new and if fhe doesn't try making a killing of this products they may not turn on him like they have Ray. I've bought seeds from p and p and have never had a problem with him while I have heard stories. mark

It doesn't bother me. I think they have products that pumpkin growers need and a lot of growers would not know about them if they didn't let us know on bigpumpkins. I have bought seed from p&p also and have never had a problem. When you see a post from someone you don't want to read don't click on it is what I do.

I think that the biggest difference is that Matt Wickless (pumpkinsupply.com) is an active user of bigpumpkins.com and contributes information, comments, etc. to this site on an almost daily basis. I also feel that pumpkinsupply.com does a lot of the footwork for growers, so they don't have to spend a lot of time searching for the products that they offer...which are things that a lot of us are looking for.

I believe Pumpkinsupply provides a good place for newer growers and older ones to find some of the chemicals, fertilizers, etc that are widely used by pumpkin growers. I don't think Matt is trying to get rich with this but just provide a place to get some growing supplies. I agree with Doug if you don't want to read these type of posts just keep on scrolling.

For me the difference is that every time Ray posts something on here it sounds a lot like he is looking to make the most money possible whereas Matt's posts sound like he wants to help out us growers rather than making profit.

George's video offer is also a case where someone wants to help growers and not make money...

fellow pumpkinholics

some have a bad reputation because they earned it and some get the same reputation because of what others with an ax to grind have portrayed them to be

i dont think anyone that really enjoys this hobby of ours or sells products that we use is making a killing on sales

there are only so many places growers ( especially the new ones) can go for supplies

we do seed auctions, seed raffles, seed sales, like a bunch of pumpkin prostitutes ( thats a joke ) so who cares who sells what they want and for whatever price the market will bear

pretty much all the clubs also do whatever they can to raise funds , short of selling off there first born

lets grow pumpkins and have a good time

let the past stay in the past

I don't think "everyone" here got aggravated at Ray Waterman. What I remember was a spat between very few people. Most of us here don't date back far enough to even know where all the bad blood came from and I for one don't care to know. I've ordered from P&P before and the service and product have been fine. If you don't like what he charges for seeds then don't buy them...very simple.

I make posts for SeedOutlet.com just like Matt does for PumpkinSupply.com and I know the webmasters here don't mind because I've asked them.

I have no problem with advertisement here at BP. I also think Pumpkinsupply.com is an awesome site and know Matt makes little or no money doing it. Shoot, you factor in his time and id bet $ hey is loosing money. Matt does it because he likes it and likes to help. WOW is all I can say!!!!

Unfortunately Ray's thread turned into a stream of personal attacks and needed to be truncated.

Also, it wasn't removed all together but rather moved to the auctions message board.

We don't have a problem with plugs and mentions in the message boards as long as they don't get out of hand.

There is an unwritten rule among message boards that dictates restraint if no such owner specified protocol exists. It's mostly a matter of taste. This website does have an area dedicated to items for SALE.

Personally, I think that commercial promotions belong in that area unless it is for seeds in which case the auction/seed swap page might be more sensible.

When commercial promotions appear in General Discussion I can only assume that the poster knows that some folks only read certain boards & don't want to miss a chance to have their plug seen. This is considered in very poor taste on most message boards. I was once a moderator at one such lawn care message board that deemed such an act as grounds for immediate & permanent banning.

Message board etiquette is not so obvious unless one frequents some of the "other" types of forums out there on the www.

Just my not so humble opinion though.

I certainly don't have a dog in this but, I do know Ray helped promote this sport/hobby/obsession back when it wasn't much more than an annual experiment. Some of you newbies might like to know this fact...
