First year grower from NH Robb Stidwill recently sent me photos and details of his first years experience with AG's. He joined the NHGPGA last spring and attended our Annual seed swap in April. He won the 582Hester in a seed raffle and made it his choice plant for 2004. He said it was a July 15th pollination (1023Vader) and by Aug. 29th it was 355"ott. It was growing 40lbs a day and forming dill rings like crazy. He called Bruce Whittier for advice and Bruce hurried over to his house. Bruce recommended he cut the main vine and they did. Three days later it was still growing 35lbs a day and showing no signs of slowing. Robb then removed over 50% of the leaves, but it was to late the next day it split in the dill ring. He patched the hole and watched it contiue to grow. On October 2nd it's final measurments were 393" total, 1240uow -dmg. Check out my Growers Diary under Jim B for photos...

If I lived in New Hampshire I think I know what I'd be growing every year until I couldn't find another one of the seeds...582 Hester!

Now Jim Why in the world did you have to go a post such a thing?
Don't you know that there is still way too much time before seed starting?
I'm trying to narrow down my choices and now you go me thinking about that darn 582 again.
Maybe Russ is right & I should save it for someone special in NH......

fantastic accomplishment for any grower but exceptional for a new grower
but i know you new hamshire boys, there were probably three or four more tucked away that no one got to see
thats why the new hamshire group is one of the best in the world
they just keep developing new growers with huge pumpkins
good job

The reason the NH growers do well is because they work together as a group. This should be a hint to other growers associations. Team work can produce big results.
