I was wondering if any of you have a favorite pumpkin you grew, and why is/was it your favorite? Was it your largest, prettiest, first, etc. Also, what seed grew it? My favorite, is the only one I've grown with know A.G. genetics. It was a 953 Langevin X 1260 Weir seed(don't know the size of pumpkin it came from). By far the largest I've ever grown(615 lbs.). Nice color, decent shape, and heavy to the charts.

The "Great Pumpkin" for Charlie Brown. A whole seasonal show was made about that pumpkin.

341 Edwards 99. Grown from P&P 627(97) which was 796 Bobier x 1006 Greer. It was a nice orange pumpkin that became a source of pride for my 2 year old. He was just learning to talk and would toddle out back and say "Orange one. It's a biggie!" Six years later he still says orange is his favorite color. I've grown some better plants, but that one has a nice family memory attached to it... Frank

Edwards, very nice. Giant pumpkins are great but it is the family and your memories that are more important. Pumpkin fever is sweeping the family now. My two children are really into it again this year, in fact my younger one is doing a science fair project with jack-o-lantern seeds and seed germination. Now my sweet dear wifey is getting into it and can hardly wait till we get things underway.

My 879 squash in 1998 was definitely my favorite. It had quite a buzz in my area because it was heading for 1000 pounds before she went down a month early.
I remember it most because my grandfather, who got my interest peaked in gardening when he and his sister (my great aunt) used to have contests to see who could grow the longest cucumber, stopped into my patch one day and was like a kid in a candy store. He was amazed beyond belief, and to see that look was priceless, especially coming from the man I idolized the most in life.
He was a hunter, a trapper, a gardener, and was one of those rough old men who never showed emotion, he left that up to grandma, which she did very well. So my memory of him stopping and being amazed at leaf size, at fruit size, just basically the entire process, is one that will live with me forever. He was a great old man, nicknamed Curly, who worked on the railroad his entire life. He passed away 6 months later, and the few pics I have of him in the patch are special because he never let anyone take his picture, but for some reason, that day he did. And with a big smile..

I'm running along with Rocky's comments. My dad planted a field pumpkin, of unknown variety, to me. That hill produced enough, for all the neighborhood kids, who joyfully carved our first pumpkins some sixty years ago. ........and left one or two, for my mom, to make a pie. This experience was my first and most remembered.

Rock, Great story, my grandparents raised me since I was 4 years old and my grandfather also worked on the railroad. When ever I think about my grandfather I always picture him wearing that black and white B&O railroad hat. Thanks for the story Rock.
