Thanks Bob Wells! What was the contraversy about the 825 shymanski? Bob, your 896 is the largest seed I have, there is a good chance I will grow it. Is there anything you could tell me about it? A picture you could e-mail? Was it Orange? Was there any successful giants grown from it? Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It maybe true that some 825 shy's have split, but it has also produced alot of good stuff...Anyone ever hear of the 801.5 Stelts?

Is the 825 Shymanski a parent of the 801.5 Stelts?

yes, those are offspring that did well, most split. Unless you're growing to make a cross and not a record gorw it, but if you're trying to get a big one in a backyard patch it's not that great of an idea. Sure it grew the 908 this year, but a slew of other 825's split this year.

the 825 does tend to split alot, but is a good grower and the plant characteristcs are good...big leaves and nice vines. The leaf stalks are somewhat soft so be careful walking around them. Certain genes can be crossed into the 825 so the next generation pumpkins do not split and weigh heavier. Basically...i am intersted in what the offspring of the 825 produce...ever since i grew my 762 from the 788 wentzell 99 uow (825 shy x 606 wentzell). some people will think this is all, well, dumb, but i like a challenge......they can stick with there 723's and 846's, i will get there someday with my own seed.

i happened to see the 908 up close in person. That was a great looking pumpin from the 825 shymanski, and it went around 50 lbs heavy, which is very unusual. Crossed with the 705 stelts, i think that will be a good cross.....Dave creuziger is one of the only growers around that can make 825 shymanski's hold together, not sure how he does it.

Casey,
His climate is probably a factor. Mark Shymanski lives in WI too doesn't he?

yes, mark shymanski lives in WI...creuziger is in the southern part of the state, below milwaukee, near lake michigan. Mark lives north of madison. I live north of shymanski, right in the heart of WI. Since creuziger lives near the lake, his climate stays more uniform than most....his 908 was not the only big one he had, he had a 600 lber in early august that split on him, was going towards upper 900's or maybe a 1000 lbs....that pumpkin was from his 784 2000 (655 johnson x 780 eaton). Creuziger only recovered 12 good seeds from his 784.
