I have this elecrtic fence unit mounted in my basement I have the power to the fence run out of the electric fence box out through my block and run under underground using underground wiring about 100 feet to my fence. I was wondering instead of running the ground wire outside and driving 3 ground rods(which is what it calls for,and i dont know why three.)Would it be ok to ground this to a water pipe in my basement instead. If im not mistaken I think the new power codes dont allow you to ground to water pipes anymore beacuse when I used to run catv cable they wouldnt let us ground anything to a water pipe. Can I still ground this unit to a water pipe and it be safe? I would hate for my wife to be taken a shower and my electric fence get hit with a bolt of lightning.*cough*

Dont earth to any thing on the house you will get a tingley feeling the earth rods need to be straight into the ground but to get the biggest bang out of that unit or any unit use at least 3 rods spaced about 3 meters apart into the wettest part of ya section also make sure the wire connecting the rods is either clamped or bolted to each rod and that all rods are in a dead straight line. This is the best way to set up for biggest bang any more questions just ask I used to set units up on big dairy farm for a job.
