Hi, I am new to this site but have been growing pumpkins for many years. Bought store seeds about 10 years ago and have been bettering myself since then. I do it for the kids and grandchildren they love it. What I don't understand is why my states record is so low. I have produced a few over 600lbs and even close to 800 but my states record is only 400lbs or so.Isn't their any growers in MD? Do we have any on this site? What are they doing wrong?

If you had 600 to 800 pounders why is your state record 400lbs? Did all of your fruits split? If they were sound and you weighed them on a certified scale with at least one witness the record should be yours...

This sounds differently than intended. I guess my question is why a location has lower weights than other very close locations? It seems harder to grow here than other places. 40 miles north of us they produce a few well over 1000lbs.

I think its just a lack of interest in MD. We have only a couple MD growers that frequent this site that I know of. I would think the climate up there would allow for a thousand pounder one of these days.

I think the problem may be the same that it is here in Ky. I have talked...via e-mail...with a number of growers in Ky. who have produced big pumpkins...well above what is listed as the Ky. state record. They are just not interested in being in a record book. They grow for the fun of growing and not for the notoriety. They just dont bother to submit them to the record keeper. That may be another problem. Who keeps the records? How do you contact him (or her)? What is the verification process? Just my thoughts. Peace Wayne

Go to the IPGA website and we have a all time top ten list for states that provide them.
