I was really surprised to read about how mice are eating into pumpkins, but than it became clear that this is not an uncommon problem.I am starting to think that we are training the mice to find and eat the pumpkin seeds.By discarding the culls we are teaching mice that seeds are inside pumpkins. So I am curious about how growers dispose of their culls without small critters getting to them.Or is my theory incorrect and mice just like pumpkin meat?

I have never had a mice problem. I have yet to hear of mice problems in the Pacific Northwest. Mice can and will eat most anything when they get really hungry. I do not believe that pumpkins are on their primary menu. Most growers up here use paper mill fabric under their fruit so rodents can burrow from underneath.

ron and i also use the mill fabric and as additional insurance we also drop a ring of moth balls around our best prospects ( it really works, i guess the smell has something to do with it )
