I have a front tine 5 hp tiller. I have a main patch set up already, and I am going to dig a 4 by 5 foot pit in my backyard for another plant. The area is grass. Is it ok to till up the grass area with my tiller or do i need to dig out the grass first? Thanks for the help. Jimmy

Jimmy,
I would just till the grass under. It's just another source of organic matter after it is dead & decaying. If some of the turf remains alive (some will), then spray it with Roundup right before the last tilling.

yep, just till it in. It's a good calorie burner.

Jimmy,
You're in for a rough ride! I suggest you dig the turf up, pile it somewhere upside down, and let it break down before adding it to the patch.

I would spray with roundup first, then till it under after a few days. Be prepared to have your butt kicked by 5 horses.
