I would like to know if anybody out there in Pumpkinville knows why my pumpkins grow to b-ball and beachball size then stop growing, turn a white color then die. This has happened 6 times already and has me frustrated. My plants look very healthy but I have had Squash bugs, Cucumber beetles and S.V.B.'s. It's looking like I will need this info for next year, I think this year is over for me.

Hi big'en,

Oh how disappointing! We're sorry we don't know the answer to your question, but hope someone out there does. We know how if feels to have worked so hard, and then to have a major setback. Don't give up. Riverview School Kids

HI BIG,EN Hows your nitrogin level. When you start to think about pollination you should stop fertilizing maybe 2 weeks prior to pollonation time.I have had a hard time in the past getting pumpkins to take without aborting when there the size of softballs due to to much nitrogin in the soil and thay will abort when there larger then that. If you think its nitrogin you can leach it from your soil by overhead watering. If your leafs are a real dark green to borderline purple theres probley to much nitro in your soil. Thats one of the reasons fruit abort other then that i have no idea. good luck .try leaching your soil if thats what you think it might be and keep pollinating you,ll get one that will take. a 50 day old pumpkin will still be very big.good luck john g.

There could be a couple of reasons, one pumpkin wasn't pollinated. Heavy rain during pollination. To much fertilizer during pollination. I'm not sure if you hand pollinate try that if you don't and cover female blossom with plastic bag. Try not to fertilize during that period. Hope that helps if there are any other ideas I'm also interested. Better luck next year. mark

Also if the temp is to hot during pollination. This will a pumpkin cause to abort. mark
