What a fine pumpkin community we are, someone has to sell his soul to ebay and we laugh and make fun of him. It's to bad he had to turn to ebay to find help, the Great Pumpkin Community that we are only offers humiliation. to bad he could not turn to a club or the GPC to sell his seeds for him, like a benifit auction. a couple of dollars a seed could of gottin him more help than ebay and put the seeds back in the hands of the fine pumpkin community, rite! I believe he knew he would catch some grief and lose some respect by doing this , but one has to make some hard choises in life when you see no light at the end of the tunnel, but what does one do, what would you do. Is this not the same person that was giving answer to breeding and pollinating questions and now you turn on him for selling his seeds to get out of some hard times. Yep, I would call this one fine pumpkin community, I hope this does not happen to anyone else and if it does I hope you can turn to pumpkin community for help first and not have to turn to Ebay Selling seeds does not always have to benefit a club , maybe it can help one on hard times to. Your comments are well thought out Gene but sometimes people are to proud to ask for help from clubs and oranizations even family, Pride sometimes gets in the way of things.. mark

One other comment most people know how I feel.. I feel one can get good enough or as good of seeds from growers for free just in the hope that one of there seeds may get proven. A grow needs not spend 100's of dollars for good quality seeds. With that said I also think we are in a transsion period where the selling of seeds on ebay or even here by privite parties will be excepted but I always think there will be plenty world class seeds for free..mark P.S. so if someone wants to sell there seeds on eby who gives a rats ass. who cares if someone wants to spend 500 dollars on a 723 its there bussiness.. one has to change with the times i guess

Just my 2 cents, but I think that if a couple hundred of us donated 10 dollars each to Ernie, this will not make or break us, he could keep his seeds and still recover a few dollars to help out his family. I for one would help. Tom

Ernie has entered the only hand to hand trade medium I know of that would give him a dime for his collection. If the medium finds two people willing to believe that pile is worth a certain amount of money he will have his money in about two weeks or three.
Honest supply and demand real or perceived is what generates the market absolutely, in the control hands, of the buyers....not the seller. Peaks and surprises often show up and sometimes are sustained, by those, who believe the seller can control the market. Not so! It is always the buyer that sets the limits. The seller can only offer the item and set the hype....which is fun, to observe, sometimes.

Doc, the selling of seeds on ebay is not my POINT ,I do not care where he sells them, a fellow growers is on some hard times, he's layed it out plain and simple for you and every one to see, he is selling his seeds to get some cash, he's not asking for a free hand out. Iam just trying say maybe the next time a fellow grower falls we can pick him up and not just walk over him! If a club annouced they were having a benefit auction for a fellow grower and a grower put up his seeds to sell then I would not question or need to know the reason or who that person is, alls I need to know is how I could help. If it is a good enough reason for the club then it is good enough for me. people preach to all the new growers all the time how great the pumpkin community is ,friendship , good times, the best people, the nicest people well maybe that is just awhole lot of bull%$&@ ! I am a firm believer in what goes around comes around Gene McMullen

Gene, I was very happy to read your last post. Just have a look on the seeds exchange board. My father, a newbie, would like to EXCHANGE (not to sale) one 582 Hester and one 842 Eaton. Look at what some guys (the same that have made remarks about Ernie's project) have written about my father.... Real great pumpkin community. My father won't come anymore.
Ernie was very generous with me, he gave me a lot of seeds when I began growing AG. This year he sent me a very great seed for nothing, no money, no exchange, even no SASBP... If he needs money, he can do what he wants. It seems some of you would kill for a seed. Wake up your mind ! Just imagine your wife/husband or even your child at the hospital. I would sell my soul for my family.

There are many, many people on this site, of which only a small percentage jump on other people. Thea, please tell your father not to judge a whole community by the actions of a few.

even the best ag seeds in the world are meaningless compared to ones family, life, or health. we grow ag's for fun and as a hobby, nothing more. we sure have fun growing, but let's keep things in perspective with what truly matters. well said gene:) Jimmy

IT TAKES ALL KINDS OF CRITTERS TO MAKE FARMER VINCENTS FRITTERS , AT LEAST THAT THE WAY THE SAYING GOES
MOST OF US AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER HAVE SPOKEN OUT OF TURN IN PRINT AND HAVE LEARNED FROM IT ( AT LEAST THE WISE ONE HAVE )
MY TAKE ON ONES PRIVATE PROPERTY IS THAT ITS THERE BUSINESS WHAT THEY DO WITH THEIR COLLECTION JUST LIKE ANY OTHER COLLECTOR ITS YOURS AND DO WITH IT AS YOU WILL
IT IS NOT FOR ME TO SAY WHATS RIGHT AND WRONG THEY DO NOT BELONG TO ME
GOOD LUCK TO BOTH NEW AND OLDER GROWERS REMEMBER "ITS ONLY A FRIGGIN PUMPKIN " WE ARE NOT MAKING LIFE ALTERING CHOICES OR CONTRIBUTIONS "

Yes....though someone is making life altering decisions that INVOLVED Pumpkins so we all got bugs in our bonnetts. It would be funny under less significant circumstances.

My 2 cents worth! Ditto on bohica (TOM) 1ST post. Wont't even put a return address just to take the pride out of it. I had a guy at work say to me, He would get me some chicken poop in my truck if I didn't mind driving his crappy grey car. I told him I remember walking to work, with worn out crappy shoes.

Jeezz !! what a sympathetic bunch we are ?? wasnt that long ago when we were chastising the other seed selling ebayer . this guy got his seeds the same way ! -------FREE------ as a matter of fact he was just looking for more free seeds a short time back . I suppose a few people know him personally but most know him as good as i , not very well . Did you check out his other auctions ? [ panhandler ] ? trying to get something for nothing . check his auctions and prove me wrong .

It's near impossible, barring being omnipotent, to tell just what is the truth, and what isn't. And sometimes, past deeds come back to bite the hand that feeds us, or does it?
