I just moved to a new house and dont have a garden prepared. Could I grow some fair sized pumpkins on sod killed off with roundup then covered with straw? The existing soil is 6" of topsoil over clay. Hoping my easy way out will work until I can prepare a good garden thanks

It's well worth the effort. You might still be able to locate some aged manure &/or compost. If you notify most labs in advance, a soil test can be run in about 2 weeks & we still have 2 months to work soil if it isn't frozen or too wet in March/early April.

Your roundup won't be effective until the grass is green and growing, at least I don't think so. This might affect your timeline.....
