Lets get some guys in Europe in on this. I know I have said it before, and tested the waters, but I think it would be great to see some involvement from accross the pond.

Spain has at least one natural leader. Germany may also. I agree with Nick. It is time to recognize leadership perhaps over debth of experience.
If I read the new laws, or by laws which ever correctly, the membership comes from GPC Sites or areas. Would we not first need, to have a location, in an international area become a GPC Site, from which nominees and elected persons may originate?

Everything starts with one person. That person either does something or causes something to happen by stimulating other people. For a site to be a part of the GPC, there have to be people growing pumpkins. Those people get together to weigh their pumpkins and to compete. To do this successfully they usually form something that gets them organized, like a club. Once they have a club and some pumpkins and a weighoff, they apply to the GPC to be a sanctioned weighoff site. So, get organized, grow some pumpkins, have a weighoff and then send in your application to the GPC.

What is the cost for a site to join? Does each GPC site get a cut of the money collected for prize money at their weigh-off site? these are the main things that concern me. along with the whole color issue. A squash is a squash at our site and I can't see changing that.

george
the gpc site fee is $500.00 per year
we finished with 22 sites in 2004 and already have three new sites on board for 2005( r.i., conn., wi ), with a modest increase we should have 30 sites come weighoff time
you asked about a return of investment to each gpc site
while all sites will be given some type of yearly award, at present growers from these sites only collect money based on their place in the final gpc standings once all results are in
there are several things as a steering committee we have talked about to insure something goes back to each clubs weighoff but to this point nothing has been finalized
some of the ideas im floating around is to supply gpc ribbons for each sites top growers, or possibly a trophy cup for each sites champion im sure the other steering committe members will have there own suggestions as well
i do agree with you that some form of return on investment needs to be made available to all sites just by virtue of the fact that every site will not have a grower or growers that have a top competition fruit
i dont quite know what you mean by a squash is a squash when you refer to a color rule do you mean all whatever color are squash ?, and you do not seperate pumpkin from squash ? i can tell you that the newly adopted rule when made public at the niagra seminar will clear up a lot of the confusion and disharmony we have seen over the past several years regarding this issue
thank you
