I am thinking of burying a 25 foot section of this 4 inch pipe with holes on the bottom side.It will be underneath the soil along where the main vine of the plant will be growing. One end will be sticking out of the soil with a removable cap on it.I will then pour my fertilized water into the pipe and in theory the water will go 6 or more inches under the ground for a deep feeding of the roots.Has anybody tried something like this and are there problems involved that I am not thinking of.Damn it's been a long winter already.

I've done something simmilar. I dug 3 ft deep x 5 ft wide X 12'long trenches where the plants are going to be. I used 4 inch perforated drain tile,(plastic pipe with holes all around it) I am using this to possibly fertilize, but more for being able to warm my ground from the bottom up. I then filled the pits with bone meal, blood meal, a sprinkle of sulfer and 4 cubic yards of 2 year old manure. I'm hoping the warm water will give me a 3 week earlier spring, and over the course of the summer, when I water on the surface, I should be feeding the deep roots with compost tea. Also if drainage becomes a problem you can pump out the excess tea and feed it other plants like tomatoes. I did 6 pits like this and also 1 for 3 watermelon plants. I will send a few pictures to the photo gallery Eddy

Huff has been doing this for years with his Big Zac's. One nice thing is you aren't splashing water on your leaves! The pipe will have to be "dead level" so water/ferts are distributed evenly!

I have the run off from up hill and the house gutter going via flex pipe,to peforated flex pipe in a s pattern. With soil on top dont use the inch hole flex pipe...use perfed... mice and rats love protected water holes. cap the ends.
