Let's have some fun with this. What differentiates us from other "hobby/sport" competitive growers?

Relocated the Sump pump from the basement to the pumpkin patch. Of course I had to use the backhoe so as to install pref. pipe and a pumping pit. Now I can reduce the water logged patch and gain some nice manure tea.

Erecting large tarps over our prize pumpkins so they won't be in direct sunlight....then having the neighbors ask why do you have a fan running in that tent?

1.Feeling like a kid on Chritmas morning everytime you see a BP in the mail box. 2. Having a sense of well being when you see your compost pile steaming. 3.Talking an hour or two with a fellow pumpkin grower and discovered after the conversation you still had something else you wanted to say but forgot.

I am going to post the following as a tribute to my Buddy Alun Jones, who i know some of you have met in person. 1: Flying over to the Seminar in Niagara last year and i understand that he intends to attend again this year. 2:Flying over to the USA to do a 4 week Patch Tour, killing a Raccoon and disabling his rental car in the process. 3:Growing Pumpkins in Patches that resemble the consistency of chocolate cake due to years of organic material additions and the hard graft that he puts into this Hobby/Sport.
I could go up to 10 but Hey, thats enough on Jonesy.
Respect Buddy. Mike

Making a hour of conversation with a grower thinking it was a New York Call. Oops it was international, to Canada, as was evidenced, by a big vocal groan, when the wife was paying bills last week. $75.00 freaking bucks...oh well I could have been breaking a leg attempting, to learn down hill ultimate snow sports. :)

for me there are a few times that pumpkin growing gets me really excited ( and sometimes disapointed )
1. everytime we put a tape around her from mid july to late august
2. when shes getting wheeled up to the scale and im one of last few to be weighed
all the rest seed selection, germination, early plant protection, pruning, fertalizing, spraying, treating, more pruning, training vines, releiving stress, fanning stems, shading, uncovering, soil tests, leaf testing, and weather watching i could do without
lets not forget to spend some time with the family , they are all standing at the door waiting to go out l o l
