Dear Growers:
I posted this idea a couple months ago, and I am doing it again to get an idea of how many growers would commit to bringing a fruit to a new weighoff to be held in Stillwater, MN on Oct 7th, 2005. THis is one week after the GPC events. Our weighoff will be held at "Country Sun Farms", which also happens to be the biggest retailer of carving pumpkins in the state of MN. We have a certified scale lined up, as well as a pumpkin lifting device similar to the one used in Nekoosa and Ohio. THis will be a top-notch event, with fun for the whole family.
We have contacted a number of potential big name sponsors and most are interested in donating to our cause. We intend to offer a prize structure that meets or beats the local GPC events, and the likelihood of that happening is high. In order to earn more credibility with our sponsors, we need a list of growers who would be willing to weigh their fruit at our scale.
The organization planning this event is called the "St. Croix Growers Association". We are currently a 4-person team that is seeking membership. We plan to offer early registration for potential members in order to generate funds for lifting device construction. Currently, membership gets you the opp. to weigh One official fruit elgible for prize money, and as many EXH. fruit as you can bring along. You can contact me for a registration form, but at the very least i would like to know if you would be willing to attend our event. Please reply and let me know if you are in!

you know I'm up for that Joe! however it's a good thing that fall turkey season is a month long, because I think that is opening weekend.
The 7th is a Friday? Do you mean the 8th?

Joe, I intend to be there. I'll pass this information onto others that grow the AG's. Please send me form for membership. Thanks for all your work in bringing a weighoff closer.

I'd be interested. Live 2 miles Country Sun in Lake Elmo. If I didn't have a pumpkin to bring, would certainly attend.

Thank you for the replies thus far. And yes, it does take place on the Saturday, not friday. I aplogize for the confusion. I've recieved replies thus far from over 20 growers who would be willing to attend our event. That is great news! The sponsors will be happy to hear the list of high caliber growers is growing!

Joe, I would attend if I thought I could make the 10 hour drive worth my while. Sounds like a big contest with a lot of my friends!

I hope to be there(not a guarantee), but it sounds like it will be a great event. Also closer to home for me. The St. Croix Growers Association; is there a spring meeting in the plans? I would like to see a prettiest pumpkin category at the weighoff.
