Has anyone tried to grow a pumpkin inside a plastic bag? Not the plant just the fruit.
Has anyone grown one completly on a skid or off the ground/mat.
I just like to know what different thinks you thought of trying.

how about growing one inside a rubber ballon, a red one? or, something "similar" if you know what i mean, lol..... if it were CLEAR, it is entirely possible that it could protect the fruit, but i'd be worried about what "pumpkin sweat" might do to it, but a good question, fer sherrrr!!!

I would think the the heat and moisture buildup inside a bag would be enormous. Getting a bag that size would be easy thought. Several farmers I know bag their round bales. The bags are white and extremely large. Like I said though, rot would be nearly immediate due to heat and humidity. I read somewhere that people have tried growing on a pallet. If memory serves, the pumpkin tried to grow between the slats of the pallet. Perhaps if a covering was used?

Sometimes my pumpkins end up touching the clear polythene cover that they are growing in under, this results in a hotspot which cooks the fruit in that spot and leaves it with a brown scar like you get when you graze a knee.On top of the pumpkin in this example.

I was thinking about growing a pumpkin on a mechanical scale so I could quit measuring :)

Mr. Faded, lol, you can check-out Sweden-Gustavvson's (SP?) diary....very interesting guy, uses a micrometer to monitor the daily/hourly increase in fruit dimension, and also uses four big bathroom scales and a pallet to weigh the fruit intermittently as it grows...has pb of 1000pounds with the 1092 Daigle, i think......eric
