I had a 20 lb. pumpkin growing on one of three mains of my D457. It was gaining 2 lb. per day then suddenly stopped. I noticed a white spot about the size of a quarter near the bottom of the pumpkin just above the Styrofoam it was on. This color change (Yellow to white) spread rapidly. I new this one was doomed. I had recently pruned secondaries about a foot away from this pumpkin. Was this the cause?? any ideas? I have three other pumpkins on this plant on two other mains that I'd like to prevent the same happening to. Thanks in advance, hooked on pursuit of giants stew-ee

I had the same thing happen this year to a basketball size pumpkin and no, I don't think you have anything to worry about. I believe that it is simply an abort. I would doubt that it was in any way related to the pruning of the secondaries, just merely a result of the plant deciding that the pumpkin wasn't worth keeping. I cut my aborted pumpkin apart and there were no holes, fungus or any insect damage. Good luck on your others.
