There's only around 6" of snow on the ground here in Cleveland but it's 18*F & still falling. So an Ohio patch tour today sdeems unlikely.

Since there is already close to 18" of snow on the ground in Southern New England, every major Northeastern airport is closed. We're stuck here for a while.

Who else is getting hammered?

Misery updata. Not one, but two flights canceled so far. So far the delay is 48 hours. The only consolation is the 100" TV in the bar we get to watch Philly lose on.

Steve, Bummer to hear about you being stuck up there in Cleveland. We only got about 6 inches down here, but bitter cold last night...-10. O'possum Run Road...coldest place in Ohio.

Yikes. I thought we were suffering but the Cleveland Renaissance is doing us solid. Open bar, Football goodies & a really nice dinner. Much better fare here than the airport. The wife & boy are safe with full electric & friends plowed the snow.

According to the locals it's been too warm here. Erie is not fully frozen. So lake effect snow squalls happen all the time. If cold weather had frozen the lake little snow would have fallen here.

We attempted escape by rental car/truck/van. Nothing doing. The rental agencies adopted a "no one way policy" in the wake of the storm. They cite the trouble getting their fleet of cars & vans back from the New York area which is where most of the inquirers want to go.

Let's GO PAT'S!

I just walked through waist high snowdrifts up my 120 foot long driveway to see if the road had been plowed so my father-in-law can bring his snowblower up. I checked in the backyard too, I've got a snowdrift about 20 feet long, ending on the side of the house only about 3 feet from reaching a second story window. And the wind is still up around 70 to 80 km/h.

Thank you for all the wishes & the generous transportation offer. The saga has ended...finally.

After a Patriotic butt wooping the jovial New Englanders called Hertz & discovered they had realized that very many one-way rentals galore were headed *THEIR* way & they decided they'd better lighten their own load at Hopkins Airport.

7:30AM this morning we finish our $16.00 breakfasts & board the RTA for Cleveland's Hopkin's Airport. Cleveland to Hartford driving? 9 hours sounds about right.

9:20AM: $420 later & after the return of a non-running Chevy Venture, our 6-man CT possee finally departs the rental car terminal in 2 working rented Hertz mini-vans (smoking & non-smoking) in a gentle snowfall.

10:00AM: Gentle snowfall is turning into the real deal.

11:00AM: Marv in Altoona would have been proud. Mile 158 was a raging blizzard. Why did we do this again?

1:00PM: We should be in NY by now but we're still just below Wilkes Barre. 30 yards of visibily is really being way too generous. Three 18 wheelers seen jack-knifed. Two are fatalities. Cars like ditches too but don't fold in on themselves so easily.

2:30PM: Heck Yeah! Darkest they have, black no sugar! 4th today. Remind me again why we didn't grab that 4-wheel drive Navigator. Hey, look at that Moose! No, no no...watch the road instead.

7:30PM: Yes dear, we're going over the Newberg-Beacon Bridge now......No, the Hudson River....Yes, the one in New York. At least it isn't snowing any more.

9:30PM: $4.00 just to enter "Long Lot #1" so he can drop me off at my truck?....I don't *WANT* to climb over that pile of snow....those aren't snow snoes! What do you mean "no restrooms?"

10:20PM: How many discs were herniated before you fell? Are you sure you don't need a doctor? No, three Advils probably won't destroy your liver....I don' think...Chew some bread first though.

Sixteen hours door to door. Stupid snow.
