Pat Mastors anchors the Noon and 5-6 PM newscasts on Eyewitness news. She also reports "Healthbeat" on Eyewitness News nightly at 5 and 11 PM, working with producer Audrey Desrosiers. "It’s local health news", Pat says" – "with an unparalleled commitment among area TV stations to cover the health issues that impact our lives."
Pat lives and works right in the community where she grew up. A graduate of Cumberland High School and the University of Rhode Island, Pat lives in South County with her husband and their three children. "It’s been great to be able to continue my career surrounded by family and longtime friends", Pat says, "I’ll be in the grocery store and someone will come up and say they used to play Little League with my brother…or they worked with my mom at the local hospital. It gives me a real sense of connection with viewers."
Pat began her broadcasting career at WGME-TV in Portland, Maine. She also anchored the news on WSAR radio in Fall River. Pat reported and anchored for 6 years at WJAR-TV in Providence before joining WPRI in 1989 as anchor for their newly created 6 AM newscast, as well as their noon news. She moved to the noon and 5 PM news in 1997.
Pat enjoys gardening (she produced a twice-weekly gardening segment for two years on WPRI). In the summer of 2001 she teamed up with the RI Giant Pumpkin Growers’ Association (yes –there is such a group!) and grew a giant pumpkin, sharing its progress weekly with viewers. The result, not too shabby: a 490-pounder!
Pat also loves cooking, reading, and, when there’s time, in-line skating, skiing and painting. The Mastors also share their home with Max, a Labrador Retriever, Casey, a Rottweiler, and a "pound" cat named Sammy (who’s sure he’s in charge.)
