The Night Before The GPC Weighoff T'was the night before the big weighoff, and all through the patch, all the lifters were arguing, but not with their spouse. You should lift it up high, you should lift it like this...but I say, "It is my pumpkin and you will lift it as I wish." The pumpkins were hung from the scaffold with care, with hopes that the trailer would somehow fit underneath there. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I craned back my neck to see what was the matter. The glare from my brake lights off the 845's glow, gave a vision of midday to the trailer below. And what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a 4 ton wench and 8 tiny lifteers. More rapid than forty pound growth days, the wench did unscrew, and he whistled and shouted and told them what to do. Now Ed, now Jim, now Grandpa and Owen! On Kyle, on Chris, on Tracey and you. So over to the 1097.5 with the scaffold they flew, a trailer full of hope and the pumpkin grower too. He was dressed in an orange sweatshirt from his head to his waist, and he was covered with mud from the patch which was wtaered in haste. A bundle of 1097.5 flung over the race, he looked like a heavy hitter unloading his pack. He spoke not a word but went straight to his work. He emptied the lifter and turned with a jerk. And laying a finger aside of his nose...and giving a nod, as he clamped down the last hose. But I heard him exclaim as he drove to the GPC Weighoff Site, "Good luck at the weighoff and to all a good night."
