Please use this thread to post info reguarding Day 10"cc, Day 20"cc, Day 30"cc & Day 40 weights and final weights of your top 3 fruit over 750 pounds. I hope to begin to compile a new estimation factor for fruits at various sizes and search for a correlation of final size at a younger fruit ages. I have found the Day 40 OTT" x 1.29 factor to be very effective. I hope to use the new data to determine a younger fruits potential much earlier. Much time and resources can be conserved by early detection of good potential fruit. Base goals of 60"cc at day 20 and 100" at day 30 are the current bench mark for a final good sized fruit. I will set up an Excel file and share all info for those who wish to take part in this study. You may respond by email for a copy of the file.

Thanks Russ L.

I'm with Gordon... GO UTES!

This is a great idea. I don't have any direct data to share,
but I will say that I had too much nitrate in my patch last
year, and very, very slow fruit growth in July. The fruits
finally started to really grow in August, but it was too late
for a 500+ fruit. Unfortunately, I don't have the data written down.........

Nitrates do one thing very well. Growing wild plants. I had a couple of those this year too. They would not set fruit until late in season.

I just performed a silly exercise. I took all of the listed final weights (in pounds) & divided by the 20 day measurements (in inches). I threw out the low & the high & averaged all the rest.

The number derived was an untterly meaningless 13.5.

If the 20 day measurement (in inches) is multiplied by the meaningless 13.5 factor, the resulting number is within about 10% of the finished weight in pounds.

Thus Ben's fruit could finish between 1020.6 - 1247.4 lbs.

Early results seam to indicate day 10 measurements above 2.6" per day suggest a higher potential for 1000 pound fruit. Much more data is needed.

Thank you Gustavsson. Nice to know you are still plugged into PB.com.. I always enjoy your diary entries.

Nice to see everyone taking part. We need data from all large pumpkins and a few 1200 + pounders. Please keep it coming. A special thanks to all growers who have contributed info on larger than 1000 fruit.

The goal of the study is to gather as much Day 10" CC data as possible. Finding any possible correlation between early size and final weights would result in early detection of good potential fruit. Shifting your resources to the most promissing pumpkin could save time and money.
